Maurits W. Haverkort
Maurits Haverkort studied physics in Groningen and obtained his PhD. from the university of Cologne where he studies spin and orbital physics with the use of theoretical x-ray spectroscopy on open shell systems. He uses several theoretical methods ranging from density functional theory for the less correlated materials to quantum chemistry methods able to describe the more correlated systems and excitons. He developed several tractable methods to describe novel spectroscopy types. His current research interest at the Max-Planck institute for chemical physics of solids is focused on the realistic theoretical description of the ground and excited states in complex materials.
